Going far, not fast
Welp, took a week off of running. Hurt myself on my last run week.
The last few weeks I've had tightness in the top three middle toes on my right foot. This caused me to compensate by landing and pushing off with my big toe. So a got a blister that covered the entire bottom of my toe.
Part of barefoot is not wearing socks in my shoes. When I wear them for too long of a run, they kinda pull my toes and my toenails like a tight condom. It’s not comfortable, so I decided to try and build up the callouses on my feet to go the distance.
Full disclosure, I have to do things the hard way… I might be a masochist.
So I took the week off to give my skin a chance to reattach to the muscle. Cause that’s what it felt like. No pain, just a weird water balloon sensation. It’s been fine walking, and I only felt it when I bent the toe doing yoga. No pain, just weird skin sliding.
Going that long without running was getting my brain a little weird. I don’t run because I wanna lose weight or race real fast. I run because it’s how I work out my thoughts. The more I run, the better my brain gets. More in control of my anxiety, depression, and ADHD. The latter ive been treating with functional fungi as well, mostly dried blends you add like any protein powder.
So i focused on my intake, tried to keep food clean, and cheapish. I only cheated once, on running day cause I needed the calories and salt.
The run was fun. Didn’t hurt too bad. I wore some new toe socks i got last week. Definitely helped, gave enough cushion I don’t think I hurt the blister too bad. I know there's no avoiding hurting it, but at least minimize the damage.
Time was pretty consistent, 12:05min/miles. That's basically my recovery pace. The goal is to run 10.30min/miles. That means run a mile every 10 minutes 30 seconds. If i get injured, go too fast, or need to catch my breath, i need to slow down and run at 12:00/mi (minutes per mile).
Weird thing about all this running, are how many people are telling me they want to get healthy. Club managers and a couple friends have said they stayed getting back into running and walking a couple miles a week, and a few that turned into a few miles a day. There's a lot of power in movement. An object at rest, stays at rest.
What challenges have you overcome this week? What are you working on? They're enough to worry about in the world, focus on you. Few minutes on sunlight. Find a 15/20min nap. Find time to do 10 jumping jacks. So it a couple times a day. And drink more water.
Good vibes.
